Price parity for total cost of ownership (TCO) of electric cars as compared to conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) driven cars gets nearer than expected. ThinkProgress reported: “In a major 2013 analysis, the ‘Global EV Outlook: Understanding the Electric Vehicle Landscape to 2020’, the International Energy Agency estimated that electric vehicles would achieve cost parity with internal combustion engine vehicles when battery costs hit $300 per kWh of storage capacity. The analysis projected that this would happen by 2020.” (http://bit.ly/sgu003) However, a recent study by Björn Nykvist (SEI – Stockholm Environment Institute) and Måns Nilsson (SEI and Stockholm’s KTH – Royal Institute of Technology) see this price level to already be reached in 2015 (http://bit.ly/sgu005).
